Devotion: Part 1- What We Need To Wear To The War — Section 1

Section 1: Take a Stand!

There are three sections to Part 1.

Philippians 4:1- “Therefore, my brethren and dearly beloved and longed for, my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord, my dearly beloved.”

Some people reject the military side of the Christian life. I appreciate those who want to see peace on earth; however, as long as sin exists in this world, the battle between Satan’s forces and God’s people will rage on. Anyone who chooses to be on the side of the Lord Jesus Christ will face severe opposition from Satan and his followers. And those who refuse to fight will fall in the heat of the battle. The Bible frequently uses the images of war to depict the Christian life. Paul exhorted Timothy to be a good soldier of Jesus Christ.

In 2 Timothy 2:3 it says, “ Thou, therefore endure hardness, has a good soldier of Jesus Christ.”

In fact, the first picture our Lord gave of the Church was a military one. He told the disciples that the gates of hell would not prevail against the onslaughts of the Church.

Matthew 16:18 says, “And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”

In ancient times, a common military tactic used by armies was to break down the gate of an enemy’s fortress with a battering ram. Once inside, they could then destroy the opposing army. Likewise, Jesus told us that Satan and his forces are not able to withstand or prevent the onward march of Christianity. The Church will win the war.

I would like to leave you with this verse.

1 Corinthians 16:13- “Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong.”

This was a short devotion, but something to think about. As I go throughout this series of devotionals about “What We Need to Wear to the War,” there will be shorter and longer devotionals. I hope you will continue reading each devotion in this series.

I pray these devotionals will help you become a stronger Christian.

I would love for you to comment on or share this devotion.

All verses are KJV.

Devotion: Part 1- What We Need To Wear To The War — Section 3

Section 3: The Soldier's Responsibilities There are three sections to Part 1. As soldiers of Christ, we not only need to be ready for our ongoing battle with Satan, but we also have several responsibilities that we must fulfill if we are going to hold on to our inheritance and fight from victory, not for victory. Our responsibilities are threefold: (1) We must know our enemies;  (2) we must use the equipment; and (3) we must depend on the energy that God provides. Who is the Enemy? Ephesians 6:11 tells us , "Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil."  Paul then went on to describe the Enemy we are fighting: "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places" (Eph. 6:12). Satan is not merely a flesh-and-blood human or a concept of evil; he is a living, pers...
